Prize capping

*If there is a payout of more than £500,000 in any one draw then we may reduce some of the prizes or remove tier 5 and 6 prizes so that the maximum we payout in any one draw is £500,000.

**We limit the amount paid out in jackpots to a maximum of £100,000 in any one draw. Therefore, if four or more customers win the jackpot in any one draw, we may reduce the jackpot payout accordingly. So, for instance, if five customers win the jackpot in any one draw, each may receive £20,000.

How you might win prizes

Prizes are won by matching your chosen numbers to those drawn in our draws.

When you buy a ticket or are awarded a free ticket, you will have five numbers between 1 and 49. Tickets cost £1.

Every Monday and Thursday at 10pm we hold a draw. The draw is determined using a certified random number generator and is observed and validated by at least two members of the Scottish Children’s Lottery team. Five numbers and a bonus ball are drawn.

The more numbers you match, the higher the prize you may win.

Likelihood of winning prizes

The chance of you winning a prize in any draw is shown below. As you have a chance of winning any one of the prizes below, the combined chance of winning any prize is 1 in 6.

  1. Proceeds

As well as paying prizes to you, we guarantee that from every £1 ticket sold, at least 20p will go to supporting Children in Scotland.

This has helped us raise over £5.25m for children in Scotland since our launch in October 2016.

To give you an example:

  • In 2019,
    • we received £6,256,429 in ticket sales
    • we donated £1,292,649 to good causes (20.6%)
    • we paid out £2,278,271 in prizes (36.4%)
    • 43% of ticket sales was used to help cover operating expenses (including marketing)

  1. Grants

Since launch, our charities have distributed over £5.25 million to good causes.

Charities supporting children in Scotland can apply for grants via our supporting charities websites:

Chance to Connect

Chance to Succeed

Chance to Flourish

Chance to Study

Each of our charities has a group of trustees that will determine which applications will be successful for funding.

  • Qualifying criteria includes;
    • The charity applying should be a registered charity in Scotland with a charity bank account. It should also return annual accounts.
    • That the money is for a project delivered in Scotland
    • That the charity’s accounts are up to date
    • That the charity works outside or supplementary to statutory responsibilities
    • That the charity can clearly demonstrate positive impacts as it will be required to deliver an end of grant impact analysis report
    • That the charity has secured funding from another source as we will normally only give funding of up to 50% of any project – any more than this will be at the sole discretion of the trustees
  • We will only fund for one year. This is to ensure the charity is not fully reliant on our donation in future years
  • The money cannot be used for retrospective or deficit funding or repayment of loans
  • The amount of funds available for distribution will depend on the amount of tickets sold
  • The maximum grant that can be applied for is £25,000
  • Grants are normally awarded by our charity trustees quarterly
  • Details of successful grants can be found on our main website on the Good Causes page or in the list below
  • We publish Annual Reports with details of funding in that year which is generally available
